Privacy Policy

Ectograph is built so that your sessions never leave your phone. This policy explains what the app does with data, what little ever leaves the device, and why. It is written to be read, not skimmed past.

Who we are

Ectograph is made by Frumpets Ltd ("we", "us"). We are the data controller for the small amount of data described below. You can reach us at frumpetsltd@gmail.com.

The short version

• There is no account, no sign-up, and no profile of you anywhere.
• Your sensor readings, scan sessions and transcripts are stored on your phone and nowhere else. We cannot see them.
• The app contains no advertising and no analytics SDK, and it does not use the advertising ID.
• The one thing that can leave your device is an anonymous crash report, sent only if the app breaks.

Data that stays on your phone

The app reads your phone's built-in sensors while a scan runs: the magnetometer, the motion sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope, gravity and linear acceleration), and where the hardware exists, light, pressure, temperature, humidity and proximity. These readings are processed on the device in real time and are used only to drive the scan. They are not transmitted anywhere.

Each completed scan is saved as a session, with its transcript, in the app's private storage on your phone. You can delete individual sessions or the whole log from inside the app at any time. Session data is excluded from Android's cloud backup and device-to-device transfer, so it is not copied to your Google account.

The app has a share button for session transcripts. Sharing hands the text to the app you choose through Android's own share sheet. It happens only when you tap it, and where the transcript goes from there is your choice.

Spoken words use your phone's own audio and, where used as a fallback, the system text-to-speech engine. Speech is generated on the device. The app has no microphone permission and does not record audio.

Crash reports

If the app crashes or hits an internal error in a release build, a crash report is sent to Sentry, a crash-reporting service operated by Functional Software, Inc. This is the only network traffic the app generates on its own.

A crash report contains:

• the technical details of the error, including a stack trace;
• your device model, operating system version and app version;
• a short trail of recent in-app events, such as which screens were opened and roughly how long a scan ran, recorded in coarse buckets rather than exact figures.

A crash report does not contain your name, email address, contacts, location, session transcripts, screenshots or advertising ID. We configure the reporting SDK not to attach your IP address, device name or any user identifier.

We process crash reports on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the app working. They are used for debugging only and are retained by Sentry for its standard retention period of around 90 days, after which they are deleted. Sentry may process reports on servers outside the United Kingdom; such transfers are covered by Sentry's standard contractual safeguards.

Purchases

Ectograph is a paid app. Your payment is handled entirely by Google Play under Google's own terms and privacy policy. We never receive your payment card details. Google tells us only that a purchase happened, in aggregate, through the Play Console.

The app may occasionally invite you to leave a rating. That sheet is Google Play's own in-app review, shown and handled by Google under its own privacy policy. We only count how often we have asked, on the device, so we do not ask too often.

Permissions the app uses

• Vibration: for the haptic pulse on magnetic spikes. You can turn this off in Settings.
• Internet: used only to send crash reports and to open links you tap, such as this policy.
• Sensors: read on the device as described above. Android does not treat these as runtime permissions, but we list them here because they are the heart of the app.

Children

Ectograph is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any personal data from anyone, children included.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights over personal data we hold about you, including the rights of access, correction, erasure and objection. In practice we hold no data that identifies you: your sessions are on your phone, and crash reports carry no identifier we could use to find yours. Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles data, we will update this policy and change the effective date at the top. A meaningful change will also be called out in the app's release notes.
